We are Currently on a waitlist for the 2023-2024 school year
 DESCRIPTION:
Our preschool was established in 1973 through a federal grant.  It is a teaching lab in which high school students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program work in the preschool alongside a certified teacher. Classes meet three times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We have two different classrooms.

     White Room
This is our younger classroom, In this classroom we focus on engagement with peers
This class meets 8am- 11am.  We begin accepting students at 2.9 as long as they are fully potty trained.

     Green Room
This room is for our students who will be attending Kindergarten the following year. This class meets 8am-12pm

PHILOSOPHY:
The program provides developmentally appropriate learning experience for the child within a group setting. Through play, the children learn to work with others, behave in acceptable ways, deal with their emotions, explore varied material and create things using their imagination. Their language skills are enhanced as they participate in discussion, make plans and carry out the plans they have made. Stories, poetry, music and creative movement strengthen listening skills and bring out creativity in the child. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own rate emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

STAFF:
The teacher of the Early Childhood Education Program functions as the head teacher of the WRHS Preschool School. The teacher will work directly with the preschoolers and supervises the activities of the student intern/aides within the school. As teacher she will model appropriate teaching methods for the high school students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. High school students enrolled in the program will act as student intern/aides in the school. They also experience a seminar block one day a week where they study the development of children and current issues effecting children. They will assist the teacher in planning and carrying out the activities geared to the needs and ability levels of the preschoolers enrolled in the program. The presence of these students in the classroom makes it possible to have varied and exciting activities available to the preschoolers.
