DESCRIPTION:
Our preschool was established in 1973 through a federal grant. It is a teaching lab in which high school students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program work in the preschool alongside a certified teacher.
Mini Mountaineers
This is our younger class, In this class we focus on engagement with peers.
This class meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 8am- 12am. We begin accepting students at 2.9 as long as they are fully potty trained.
Mountaineers
This class is for our students who will be attending Kindergarten the following year. This class meets on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8am-12pm
Tuition
Is subject to change based on budget.
For the 2024-2025 school year tuition is as follows:
Mini Mountaineers - 2 days a week 8-12= $1,500/year
Mountaineers- 4 days a week =$2,500/year
PHILOSOPHY:
The program provides developmentally appropriate learning experience for the child within a group setting. Through play, the children learn to work with others, behave in acceptable ways, deal with their emotions, explore varied material and create things using their imagination. Their language skills are enhanced as they participate in discussion, make plans and carry out the plans they have made. Stories, poetry, music and creative movement strengthen listening skills and bring out creativity in the child. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own rate emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
STAFF:
The preschool teacher will work directly with the preschoolers and supervises the activities of the student intern/aides within the school. As teacher she will model appropriate teaching methods for the high school students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. The High school teachers will function as co-teachers in the preschool and the High school students enrolled in the program will act as student intern/aides in the school. They also experience a seminar block one day a week where they study the development of children and current issues effecting children. They will assist the teacher in planning and carrying out the activities geared to the needs and ability levels of the preschoolers enrolled in the program. The presence of these students in the classroom makes it possible to have varied and exciting activities available to the preschoolers.

Calendar
We follow the Wachusett High School calendar. The program runs from mid-September to late May. A school year calendar will be provided in the fall, and a monthly preschool calendar will be provided at the beginning of each month. On professional development days, and with 2-hour delays there will be no preschool. If there is an afternoon event that closes the high school, the preschool will also be closed. The monthly preschool calendar will remind you of these days.
